Position Summary: Are you a self-starter interested in repositories, open access and scholarly communication? The Library Information Associate demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communications skills necessary for providing direct and timely support to faculty and campus partners, collaborating with colleagues, and managing students. The position requires strong entrepreneurial and organizational skills including workflow management, process assessment and improvement, attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility and the ability to shift priorities in a dynamic environment. Primary responsibilities include managing work in support of the UA Open Access Policy, such as researching publisher permissions and acquiring content for the UA Campus Repository. In addition, the incumbent provides support for institutional repository collections such as theses and dissertations, collections from library and campus partners, and supports other open access initiatives as needed.

The Library Information Associate will be part of the Office of Digital Innovation & Stewardship –a dynamic team that supports a wide range of digital services such as digital scholarship, data science, research data management, geospatial services, digital preservation, metadata consulting, repositories, publishing, scholarly communication and open access.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage manual and automated workflows for processing new publications, presentations, scholarly and creative activities from faculty, researchers and students to support the UA Faculty Publications collection, theses and dissertations, and other repository collections as directed.
  • Research publisher copyright agreements and licenses using tools such as SHERPA/RoMEO and publisher websites.
  • Analyze and interpret policies to determine eligibility of items for deposit into the UA Campus Repository.
  • Communicate with publishers, faculty authors, campus partners, and colleagues regarding policies and permissions.
  • Acquire content for the repository, provide descriptive metadata to conform to local and international requirements and standards, and upload content into the UA Campus Repository.
  • Administer quality control for descriptive metadata and validate content uploaded by submitters, including students, faculty and campus partners.
  • Train and oversee student employees supporting repository work.
  • Perform repository administrator functions such as setting up new collections, adding/removing permissions, customizing collection workflows and metadata forms in consultation with colleagues, and creating statistical and usage reports.
  • Participate in open access initiatives, repository service development and digital projects; including promotion and marketing efforts.

Minimum Qualifications: Refer to Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree AND two years related library experience; OR six years related library experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated familiarity with or interest in issues in higher education.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with or interest in the scholarly communication process.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with or interest in open access initiatives.
  • Experience using DSpace or another repository platform.
  • Experience with metadata application in digital collection repositories in alignment with local and national standards and best practices.
