Missouri Valley College, a private liberal arts college in Marshall, Missouri, invites applications for a professional Acquisitions, Collection Development, and Interlibrary Loan Librarian. Provides collection development and acquisitions, interlibrary loan, delivers information literacy, and provides reference, research, and referral assistance to students, faculty, and staff. May teach GS 110, “Library Resources.” Work schedule: 1 pm to 10 pm, Sunday - Thursday, 10 months per year (August - May). Position duties and responsibilities include:

Collection Development and Acquisitions

  • Evaluates and selects periodicals, reference materials, and circulating materials.
  • Evaluates, selects, and maintains collections for assigned divisions.
  • Uses acquisition software in Integrated Library System to maintain acquisition and fund records.
  • Maintains relationships with library booksellers, subscription agents, and publishers.
  • Collaborates with the Library Director to review current and prospective vendors to assess service and pricing, renegotiating discount/pricing structures with appropriate vendors.
  • Collaborates with the Library Director and the Cataloging Coordinator to ensure the receipt and accounting of new ordered materials and reconciliation of funds with campus ledgers.
  • Responsible for generating system records and reports which support the purchasing history for Murrell Library and Commons, providing records for all General Ledger fund codes in conjunction with the Library Director, and assisting in gathering such data for assignments as requested.
  • Remains aware of current trends in acquisitions, collections, and electronic resource management.

Interlibrary Loan and Reference Services

  • Administers Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service.
  • Assist clients in locating physical and virtual materials using catalog, databases, and websites.
  • Provides individual research consultation with faculty and students.
  • Creates and edits libguides and similar products.
  • Provides technical assistance (e.g., printing, copying, general computer issues).

Information Literacy Instruction

  • Offers library tours, orientations, and class-related Information Literacy in person and via distance education.
  • May teach the Library Resources class (GS 110).

Faculty Assistance

  • Assists faculty as needed.
  • Serves as a Library Liaison for assigned divisions and programs and attends meetings when invited.

Supervision and Misc.

  • Trains and supervises student assistants as required.
  • Cooperates as a team member with library staff.
  • Remains aware of current trends and developments in profession.
  • Seeks opportunities to introduce new methods and technologies to improve service.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty on campus, librarians at other colleges and universities, and within Mobius, our statewide consortium.
  • Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Library / Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or willingness to learn Link Resolver software management.
  • Experience or willingness to learn using the acquisitions and serials modules of integrated library systems.
  • Experience or willingness to learn Electronic Resource Management modules.

Position Specific Information:
Sunday - Thursday evenings, 1 pm to 10 pm. 40 hours per week (August - May). Faculty rank. Full benefits including insurance, tuition exchange, retirement contribution, five free meals a week in the cafeteria during the fall and spring while classes are in session, among others.
